The Basic Mix.
4.0 oz Soya Flour
The first 50/50 type recipe the I read about was a simple mixture of soya flour and semolina. This mix was OK, but I found it slightly “springy” to roll, but with the right flavour caught a lot of fish.
Another Mix.
4.0 oz Soya Flour
4.0 oz Maize Meal
I found that a better base mix was made by the addition on maize or corn meal. The mix didn’t seem quite as “rubbery” during rolling and the baits kept their shape better. I have used ground rice instead of the maize or corn meal, or used 2 oz of each. I do however think the carp prefer maize meal.
Final Mix.
4oz Soya Flour
2oz Milk Powder
2oz Ground Rice
2oz Maize or Corn Meal
The final mix I arrived at in addition to the three ingredients listed above, included ground rice and “5 Pints milk Powder”. This mix is very easy to roll and produces a good hard, firm boilie. I like to use 5 Pints Milk Powder as it contains added vegetable fat, which really seems to help the baits roll. Most supermarkets do their own version of “5 Pints”, look for skimmed milk with added vegetable fat. It always seems to be sold in white plastic bottles.
Tip.
50/50 mixes take about 4 medium sized eggs per 16oz of base mix.
